What's New archives
December 2003:
Since we saw you all at the October Annual Meeting in Pasadena,
your State Library Literacy Team has been busy! Our major projects
were:
1) Applying the new formula and getting your award letters
in the mail, and,
2) Revising the on-line reporting structure to accommodate
a single report form, rather than separate reports for each
of your library literacy components Adult, Family, ELLI
and MLLS.
We are now ready to share some information about those two projects
in this, our first ever, "What's New on the CLLS Website"
feature. From now on, we will try to do this "What's New"
idea about every month our goal will be to keep you informed
about important issues, AND, to get you to visit the website regularly,
and check out all the stuff that's there now, and will be added
in the coming months!
So, here goes:
Application of the New CLLS Funding Formula resulted in 2/3 of
our libraries receiving an increase over their previous year's
Adult and Families allocations. For those of you who were wondering,
almost the exact same amount was allocated in the baseline amounts
for Adult Literacy services as was provided for Adult Literacy
in 2002/03, thus reflecting our continuing commitment to Adult
Literacy being the foundation of our services.
You can find a list (in PDF) of CLLS libraries, the CLLS program
components they provide, and their 2003/04 allocation amount by
clicking here.
New Reporting System Several things to report on and show
you in this category!
1. Later Mid-Year Report Date than Usual -- The Mid-Year Report
due date, has been pushed back from the usual January 31, to a
new deadline date for this year only of February 27. The on-line
reporting system will be ready some time in mid-January, and we
will notify the listservs as soon as it's ready.
2. New SINGLE Mid-Year Report Form Using all the input
on reporting we got from previous focus groups, and from the Pasadena
meeting, we have successfully reduced the reporting for all CLLS
program components to ONE report that you will be able to submit
online. You will notice several changes besides the fact that
it's a single report:
- There will be no narrative required beyond what you see here.
Narrative comments will be required ONLY in the final report,
and it will take the shape of "bullet points" about
how you are meeting the minimum standards in all your CLLS funded
components.
- We won't start the reporting of Roles and Goals until the
Final Report this year. We know you are all working out your
implementation strategies, and it was just more than our tech
people could handle to get that up in time for the mid-year
report. In the future, you will be reporting Roles and Goals
information in both your Mid-Year and Final reports.
- There will be one budget form required for the mid-year report.
Cindy Tackett will fill in the amounts you proposed to us in
the top section of the form, and you will fill in what you've
actually spent in each category on the bottom part.
The new forms, which include the report itself, the definitions/
instructions, and the budget form are in the process of being
posted on the website for your February on-line reporting pleasure.
In the meantime, however, you can look at them to see what's being
requested by clicking here:
Again, many thanks to all of you who attended meetings and focus
groups, and provided invaluable input to the development of all
of this . . . all our good wishes to you, your staff, volunteers
and learners for warm and cozy December holidays, as we gear up
for what lies ahead!
All our best Carole, Carla, Valerie, Cindy and Robert
