Inspiring and Engaging Girls in the Sciences

The Literacyworks STEM Panel discussion at the 2012 Word Up! Community Learning Fair featured female leaders in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, and was led by Dr. Jill Tarter, outgoing Director of the SETI Institute. Dr. Tarter was the model for Jodie Foster’s role in the film of Carl Sagan’s book, “Contact”. The panel will also include Dr. Susan Lea, Chair and Professor of Physics and Astronomy at SFSU, Dr. Felisa Wolfe-Simon microbial geobiologist and biogeochemist and NASA Astrobiology Research Fellow, Dr. Linda S. Shore, Ed.D, Director, Teacher Institute, Exploratorium and Dr. Shannon Bennett, Cal Academy of Science, Associate Curator of Microbiology. All women are members of the Literacyworks STEM Board of Advisors.
